Recently Reported Ruins Located in Ecuador Jungle – Summary of Available Data

Pyramid wallInvestigation Update 02/11/13

There is not so much that can be said conclusively about these interesting Ecuadorian ruins at the current moment. In my two previous articles (one & two) I have been deliberately rather controversial in theories and made statements suggestions of possibilities  that can´t yet be supported fully by the evidence in hand. This has been very much a deliberate tactic, in my humble opinion these ruins needed to gain international exposure rapidly and attract the attention of relevant experts as well as the local government bodies. By presenting attention grabbing titles and suggestions this aim has now been largely achieved and I would now like to give a more balanced and conservative analysis of the site from what evidence I have gathered from my sources here in Ecuador. Also I would like to give a update to proceedings.

What we can say is that some three hours into the jungle not so very far from where I live in Ambato, there is located a very interesting wall of stones. These stones are placed in a manner that reminds one of the walls of the fortress at Saksaywaman in Peru, by this I mean that the strange shapes of the blocks and the large size of them both seem to match that Peruvian structures building style. We can´t say this wall in Ecuador was built by the same culture, in fact it is not clear which culture really began construction of Saksaywaman, we can only say that at least the top layers of the Peruvian structure were placed there by Inca people whilst local legends suggest the lower parts were already in place when the Inca took control of that site. This claim of earlier construction dates being required is also born out by the fact local historians alive shortly after the time stated as when Saksaywaman was constructed write that they had no idea how it was built, this makes no sense if they were alive at the same time as the purported builders.

The site in Ecuador is at such an early stage of investigation that we can conclude very little. Let us just summarise what is known to be fact. On approach to the megalithic wall are areas of jungle in which stone artefacts can be found strewn about the ground (apparently since 18 months ago these were all stolen). The majority of the artefacts appear to be some kind of rudimentary stone hammers, these vary in size and type of stone but appear to be all of the same basic design. One can suppose they were used by clasping the stone in both hands and pounding it on the intended material rather than having any handle on which they were mounted, certainly no evidence of handles or anything binding the stones to handles now remains and these would work perfectly without being attached to anything. They are seemingly unnecessarily large for use by typically small local Indians, this may suggest a larger sized racial group was present or it may be that the users were quite strong and only used these tools briefly, certainly long shifts with these in the heat and humidity of the jungle would seem to be an extremely difficult undertaking for the average person. The preponderance of these stone hammers and other stone objects that appear to be functional tools, scattered all about, make one lean towards this site being largely a place of physical labour. What exactly was being done with these tools can´t yet be known, but we do know that the nearby river produces gold and it is reasonable to suspect gold was being harvested and worked on site – but this is just a theory.

Stone tools are not the only objects to be seen, there are also stones with perfect circles through them of perhaps half a foot across, the images do not allow me a more precise description of the circumference but I will ask the photographer for his opinion. I have also seen other stones in images that appear to be machined for a unknown purpose that are roughly trapezium in shape, these images were shown to me but not supplied to me for further analysis or distribution. Not everyone involved here has been totally forthcoming with their data despite stating they would be, several people have visited the site in our understanding but only a couple are sharing information with us at present. There are also stones positioned on top of other stones, making basic T shapes, these are not cut and dressed stones and are large but not beyond what a couple of men could achieve with hard labour from what I could tell from images. I have been told there is pottery on site but as yet I have not seen images of it. Many of these stone objects and tools are quite some distance from the exposed megalithic wall, suggesting the strong possibility of a larger site progressing into the jungle surrounds.

StraightEdgeThe wall seen in the images has been guessed by one witness to be around 80 metres in height, and should there indeed be four equal walls of equal height and width this would make for a pyramid of about 80 square metres base, at least according to the same individuals guesswork. In fact what we can tell is that there is one exposed wall, clearly not natural despite some suggestions that a natural process could do this. I would point out that one stone in particular displays a perfectly cut straight edge with what looks to be four 90 degree angles to its exposed side, this look very much like the work of an expert mason not some natural process, again this must be proven by closer examination and actual measuring of angles. A second wall exists and can be seen in the video briefly, at least a small part of it is revealed by the results of the machete action, it is the proof of a second wall at a right angle to the first that allows us to reasonable speculate this hill is in fact a four sided structure, a pyramid by definition due to the obvious sloping angle to the walls. The angle of slope seems to be around 60 degrees but has not been measured and camera angles involved will obviously affect the appearance of the degree of slope.

WaterfallIt was stated to me that this pyramid/hill/megalithic structure has a flat top that would serve as a ceremonial area. This is not clear in any image I have yet seen nor is it apparent in the video. It is also stated that in the nearby area there are about a dozen `hills´ of similar size to the one we see with these two megalithic walls revealed as part of it, these are speculated to be similar structure still fully covered by soil and plants but they may not be, only a real survey, be it from the ground or air, or an excavation can confirm this for us. Again the spread of stone tools and other man-made debris suggest a significant site that reaches well beyond these two walls. A further interesting feature is a waterfall, though the strange pattern of the stone here is indeed possibly very much natural what was noted by a witness is the presence of man-made, deep carved, hand and foot holds allowing one to scale the waterfall to some hidden area above. I am not aware of anyone trying to achieve this climb.

The obvious question now is whether there is really two more walls to the structure we see in the images, and whether this is a hill that has been shaped and then covered by blocks, or it is truly a building made only of stone blocks and thus having an empty space inside or at least some kind of internal structure. This is not something we can know as yet, but if we consider the corner of the structure as seen in the video it does appear to have fallen inwards to some degree and would thus suggest the possibility of at least a small void beyond into which the corner of these two walls is collapsing. certainly this is an intriguing possibility.

One last matter than must be addressed is theft from the site. I remain deeply concerned as to the vulnerability of this location despite natural protection from the jungle. I do not know exactly how long ago these ruins and objects were first discovered, I have heard it may be decades. Certainly since I heard of it 18 months ago there is every reason to suspect numerous persons may have visited and as word spreads this could well have attracted thieves, both well funded international artefact collectors and local people wanting a souvenir or saleable relic [Now confirmed the site has seemingly been pillaged of all objects]. One visitor to the site stated he had heard that in years past some locals had been to the site and attempted to use dynamite to enter the structure, a hole was blown and hundreds of bats flew out. If this is true it is firstly extremely concerning that the structure is being damaged in such a way and secondly tantalising to thing some kind of large cavern or tunnel may exist from which these bats came.

We are in contact with a senior member of the relevant department of the Culture Ministry and through them the Patrimony Ministry, we are complying with their guidelines whilst requesting access to personally photograph the site ourselves, along with relevant professionals that have contacted us. We have also contacted the RGS and the UN World Heritage and a media organisation, everything that should be done is now being done at least from our side and we are taking advice from respected anthropologists and archaeologists as to how we might best proceed. Hopefully the site will be quickly made secure and an initial investigation might begin.

We will do all we can to assist in this matter and to report on it to the wider public. I hope you will forgive my initial headline grabbing releases that can not be fully substantiated based on the evidence currently available, I believe the end justifies the means. We now have this site being seriously looked at and the right actions beginning to occur for it to be properly dealt with. Before us doing this I think that all that was happening with this was most likely some degree of theft and likely accidental damage by occasional visitors.

On a very personal note I do indeed suspect we are dealing with a large complex with multiple pyramids and that the residents were larger than the normal local Indians, further that the circumstantial evidence points towards a connection with the legends of Anunanki gold mining operations and alien human contact. These are however just my suspicions and I would probably not have aired them at such an early stage had I not needed more attention on this set of ruins, clearly I will engender a great deal of criticism for such radical conclusions coming from so little physical evidence gained in this very early stage of examination but that is worth the results gained so far. Of course I may even yet be proven precognitive in these radical statements!
